9 de June de 2025

  • This edition includes new features: both the first and second prize selected by the jury will be recognized, along with the audience favorite.
  • The deadline for submissions, which will be posted in order of arrival, is open until August 31, 2025.

The Institute for Neurosciences (IN), a joint center of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche, has launched the fifth edition of its scientific photography contest #SciencePhoto_IN. This well-established initiative transforms scientific work into visual art each year thanks to the collaboration of the entire IN staff. The contest aims to build a catalogue of scientific images that highlights the beauty and impact of the work carried out daily in the laboratories. These images aim to showcase not only the results but also the process and the creative perspective behind each experiment.

This year’s edition, which is open until August 31, introduces several new features. Three awards will be given: the Jury Prize, sponsored by the European alliance NeurotechEU, which includes a €200  gift voucher for El Corte Inglés; the Jury’s Honorable Mention, with a €150  gift voucher; and finally, the Public’s Prize, consisting of a €75  gift voucher, which will go to the image that garners the most interactions on social media.

Images will be published on IN’s social media platforms in strict order of arrival, so early submissions will gain more online exposure. Additionally, as in previous editions, participants may include their social media handles in the submission form to be tagged and increase the visibility of their photographs among their followers. The 12 best images will be featured in the 2026 IN institutional calendar.

The contest is organized by researchers Verónica Murcia and Augusto Escalante, from the Generation and Regeneration of Bilateral Neural Circuits laboratory, in collaboration with the IN Communications Office.
