The Institute of Neurosciences has an Organ for Animal Welfare (OEBA) in accordance with RD53/2013.

This body is responsible for ensuring the welfare of animals used as model organisms in the Instituto de Neurociencias. The OEBA of the IN issues reports to the Authorized Bodies that evaluate animal experimentation projects, certifying the feasibility of the projects and compliance with the requirements demanded by RD53/2013.

The reports from the OEBA of the IN are necessary for the submission of animal experimentation projects to the Ethics Committee of the CSIC or the Office of Responsible Research (OIR) of the Miguel Hernández University.

Documentation related to the OEBA, including information on how to submit a request for evaluation of animal experimentation projects, can be found below on the intranet for authenticated users:

The same body acts as the Biosafety Committee, reviewing projects based on whether human samples, genetically modified organisms, or biological agents are used. The issued reports are necessary to obtain evaluation and approval from the CE of the CSIC. The Office of Responsible Research (OIR) of the Miguel Hernández University evaluates the biosafety aspects of the UMH projects. The Biosafety Committee also issues reports regarding the working conditions of the IN facilities for the requesting organisms.

In addition to overseeing animal welfare, the Biosafety-OEBA Committee ensures compliance with biosafety regulations and that projects have the necessary permits issued by the Ethics Committee of the CSIC or the Office of Responsible Research (OIR) of the Miguel Hernández University.

Communication with the Biosafety-OEBA Committee can be done through the email cbb.ina@umh.es or in.animalariormg@umh.es
