Special Seminar: Ardem Patapoutian, June 2nd 2025

On June 2nd, 2025, the Institute for Neurosciences (IN), a joint center of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche, will welcome Dr. Ardem Patapoutian, awarded the 2021 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his discovery of the molecular sensors of touch.
Dr. Patapoutian, who previously visited the IN in 2023, is a researcher at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, one of the most prestigious philanthropic research organizations in the United States. He conducts his work at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California. During his visit, he will deliver a special seminar titled «New mechanosensory roles of PIEZO ion channels», which will take place at 11:45 AM in the IN assembly hall.
Following the seminar, Dr. Patapoutian will have an informal meeting with IN’s PhD students, and later, he will meet with research staff working in the fields of mechanobiology and somatosensation.
Dr. Patapoutian's stay in the Valencian Community is sponsored by the Rei Jaume I Awards Foundation, on the occasion of his participation as a jury member for this year’s Rei Jaume I Awards. His visit to the Institute of Neurosciences is coordinated by Dr. Félix Viana, who leads the scientific program Neurobiology of Pain and Inflammation at the IN.
