It’s been 25 years since the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche signed the collaboration agreement that constitutes the Institute for Neurosciences (IN) as a joint center of both institutions. The anniversary celebration event, which took place in the IN assembly hall, included the participation of the Minister of Science, Innovation, and Universities, Diana Morant; the president of the CSIC, Eloísa del Pino; the rector of the UMH, Juan José Ruiz; the regional secretary of universities of the Generalitat Valenciana, Esther Gómez; and the mayor of Sant Joan d'Alacant, Santiago Ramón.

In addition, the event was attended by the subdelegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Juan Antonio Nieves; the general director of Research and Innovation of the Ministry of Health, Mariola Penadés; and the president of the Spanish Society of Neuroscience (SENC), among other authorities and personalities.

During the event, the work that the Institute is carrying out in research on the brain and nervous system was praised. The Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant, stated that this center consolidates Spain as a benchmark in brain research through projects with enormous therapeutic potential: “You are the fruit of the best public investment and your research transforms Spain in a country with higher rates of well-being and social strength. “You allow us to face the future with optimism and hope.”

The president of the CSIC, Eloísa del Pino, spotted the high degree of excellence achieved by the Institute in these twenty-five years in the field of neuroscience: “This is demonstrated by its ability to attract talent, its accreditation for the third time as a Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence and its international recognition, thanks to the efforts of its researchers and the rest of the workers”.

Furthermore, the Rector of the UMH highlighted that the IN is an example of coexistence and collaboration between both institutions: “During this year we have renewed our commitment to excellence and innovation in neurosciences. “Now we look to the future with hope and determination, knowing that together, we can achieve great things”.

This event brought to a close a scientific symposium in which the history of the IN was reviewed by all its directors and a variety of speakers of great international prestige in the field of neuroscience, who have been linked to the IN throughout these years, either because they completed their doctorate there or led research groups, or because they collaborated at an institutional level.
